Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a permanent Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Midwifery for 30 hours per week. This would include a 3-year appointment to the role of Head of Programme - Midwifery.

Senior Lecturer or Associate Professor in Midwifery

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage students in learning, teaching and assessment practices with a focus on student achievement.
  • Regularly review courses to ensure continuing relevance and incorporation of new research.
  • Contribute to innovations in learning, teaching and assessment within the discipline, including demonstrating digital fluency.
  • Incorporate Māori and Pasifika perspectives in course content and teaching practice.
  • Through awareness of the University’s strategic teaching and learning goals, develop leadership skills in learning and teaching.

Head of Programme for Midwifery

This role works closely with School Director to plan for the Midwifery programmes future and effectively managing its people, resources, learning and teaching and research programmes, including quality assurance. This fixed-term appointment will include a competitive allowance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage student recruitment.
  • Maintain existing and develop new academic partnerships.
  • Support student success and encourage excellence through overseeing the development of initiatives.
  • Achieve excellence in learning, teaching and research that is aligned with broader University and Faculty goals.
  • Support the leadership and management of the school.
  • Effectively meet human resourcing, operational and financial targets.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

The right candidate will be an enthusiastic teacher and leader, with a doctoral qualification in a relevant field and experience commensurate with the level of appointment.

Essential Key Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications commensurate with the seniority of the role.
  • Registration with the Midwifery Council of New Zealand and at least 5 years midwifery experience.
  • Outstanding people and communication skills including the ability to adjust to different audiences.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • An established research platform.
