Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Pūkenga - Lecturer in Public Policy, Public Management & Public Administration to join the Te Kura Kāwanatanga - School of Government at the Ōrauariki - Wellington School of Business and Government.

The role is to undertake both undergraduate and post-graduate teaching, conduct independent and original research, research supervision of post-graduate research students, to assist in programme development where appropriate, and to contribute to the effective administration of the School, including building and maintaining relationships with the broader practitioner communities of the public and not-for-profit sector.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an enthusiastic teacher and active researcher commensurate with the level of a Lecturer.
  • Have ability, experience, and willingness to teach a variety of courses across disciplines, and at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels.
  • Have an interest in taking lead roles in teaching & learning administration, and curriculum development.
  • Have capacity in establishing successful relationships with professional and practitioner groups associated with public policy, public management, or public administration.

We are especially keen to receive applications from candidates with a Māori/Pasifika background, and with a genuine interest in building relationships with Māori and/or Pasifika communities and organisations.

The Te Kura Kāwanatanga - School of Government serves the public interest by promoting excellence and leadership in research, teaching, scholarship, and debate regarding the issues that are critical to the public sector. The School consciously seeks to maintain a long-term strategic partnership with the government in New Zealand and a network of relationships with other external stakeholders. These guide all its activities.

The School blends academic and practitioner expertise and all relevant disciplines in:

  • Offering courses which form part of degree programmes.
  • Conducting academic research and scholarship, resulting in international peer-reviewed outlets.
  • Developing and pursuing strategic research agenda.
  • Leading the strategic development of short courses and professional programmes.
  • Undertaking commissioned contract research.
