Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently seeking to appoint academic staff in Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law at the level of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, or Professor. The purpose of academic staff is to enhance the capacity of Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law and its leadership in law teaching, legal research and scholarship, intuitional and public service, and public engagement.

While the Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law will accept applications from all qualified candidates, it is especially interested in continuing to build on its current strengths and leadership in public law, with scholarly expertise in comparative constitutional law currently being of particular interest to the Faculty.

A successful applicant will be qualified and have relevant skills and experience to undertake the following duties in a leading law school commensurate with the level of appointment:

  • Writing legal scholarship that is placed in leading academic journals or books published by leading presses.
  • Engaging in research-based teaching and coordinating courses in Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law and supervising postgraduate researchers.
  • Mentoring students and encouraging their learning of the law and their preparation for careers and contributions to community service.
  • Contributing in workshops and other forums to the development of legal scholarship by Law Faculty colleagues and the Faculty’s postgraduate researchers.
  • Serving the broader legal academic community, both national and international, including by providing reviews of potential publications in academic journals and otherwise contributing to wider legal policy debates.
  • Contributing to national and international discussion and community understanding of legal issues.
  • Serving Te Kauhanganui Tātai Ture - Faculty of Law and the wider university community of scholars by participating in committees and other vehicles for faculty and university governance.
