Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a fixed-term, part-time Kaiāwhina Matahuhua Matua - Senior Academic Inclusion Assistant to join the Te Amaru - Disability Services team from February 2025 to November 2025. The role of Kaiāwhina Matahuhua Matua - Senior Academic Inclusion Assistant is to assist disabled students to participate fully in the academic environment and to produce work that is reflective of their academic ability.

Key responsibilities:

  • Note-taking.
  • Assessment assistance.
  • Academic assistance and assignment support.
  • Electronic transcription and captioning work.
  • At times, particularly during break periods, it will include office administration.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have availability between 8:30am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday, regular schedule to be agreed upon.
  • Be committed to the application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in an educational context.
  • Have an undergraduate tertiary qualification with a B grade average or better.
  • Have a typing speed of at least 80 words per minute (to be assessed through completion of an audio typing test).
  • Be clear and comprehensive in their note-taking.
  • Have excellent listening skills and attention to detail.
  • Be a strong English language speaker with clear pronunciation and reading skills.
  • Have the ability to problem solve minor technology issues.
  • Remain calm and provide an effective service under sometimes challenging conditions.
  • Be prepared to work at Pipitea and Kelburn campuses, as required.
