Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a fixed-term, part-time Peer Support Coordinator to join the Manawa Ora - Student Wellbeing team. The Peer Support Coordinator ensures the development, delivery and promotion of peer support programmes to enhance student wellbeing through healthy and balanced lifestyles, engagement with study and University life, and social connectedness. This includes recruiting, training, rostering and supervising the Student Wellbeing Facilitators and Storycraft Facilitators. The Peer Support Coordinator also actively promotes peer support programmes through representing the service at events, and University student and staff trainings.

Key responsibilities:

  • Recruit and roster student wellbeing leaders in a timely manner, who have suitable skills and experience to provide quality peer support.
  • Ensure the pool of leaders have the diversity of skills, background and lived experience to reflect our student community.
  • Ensure all student wellbeing leaders are provided with training for their role, including how to confidently boundary inappropriate behaviour, and given quality training material.
  • Provide student wellbeing leaders with regular supervision, development and connection opportunities.
  • Provide student leaders with feedback, support, and problem solve issues as required.
  • Keep records of engagement including evaluation of programmes and events and provide regular reports that assist with continuous improvement.
  • Ensure student wellbeing leaders can confidently refer students to student services within the University and external services as needed.
  • Support the connection of students with other peer support opportunities both within the University and externally.

Ō pūmanawa - About you

You will:

  • Be a current student or recent graduate of Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington in a related discipline (e.g. Psychology, Sociology, Health Science).
  • Have a commitment to the application of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in an educational context.
  • Have experience, knowledge and awareness of the key wellbeing issues for students.
  • Be a clear oral communicator with equity groups and young people aged 18-25.
  • Have proven relationship management skills.
  • Have strong skills in time management and motivation.
  • Have knowledge and experience of Te Ao Māori and in working with Māori individuals, whānau and communities.
  • Have experience and interest in working with Pasifika, gender diverse, refugee background, disabled people and international communities.
